If you've built a business on Vimeo On Demand, the news of its closure probably wasn't something you were planning for.

You've spent time creating content, building your audience and giving your members a place to access what they've paid for. Now, with Vimeo On Demand closing on 20 November 2026, you need to find somewhere new for all of it.

And while moving platforms might not have been on your agenda, it's worth taking the time to consider what comes next.

Because the question isn't simply where to move your videos. It's where to take your members, and what kind of business you want to build around them.

What the closure means for your business

Vimeo has confirmed that new uploads stopped on 22 August, followed by new purchases, subscriptions and renewals on 21 September. Final payouts to sellers were scheduled for 24 September, and on 20 November, Vimeo On Demand will close completely.

Until then, your members can continue watching the content they've already purchased, but no new purchases or subscription renewals can take place.

Your existing videos can remain in your Vimeo account, depending on your plan, but your storefront and the way customers access your paid content will need to change.

There is also an important distinction between moving your content and moving your members.

Vimeo allows creators to export certain sales information and email addresses for customers who opted in to communications. But that doesn't necessarily mean you can take your entire customer relationship with you.

Before making a decision, it's worth understanding what information you can access, how you'll communicate with existing customers and what they'll need to do to continue accessing your content.

The sooner you have clarity on these details, the easier it becomes to plan a move that works for both you and your members.

Where can you go next?

There isn't one right answer, and the best option will depend on how your business works today and where you'd like to take it.

Another video membership platform might be the most straightforward route if your business is primarily built around selling videos or subscriptions. Platforms such as Vimeo OTT and Uscreen offer ways to continue delivering paid content, although features, costs and migration processes differ.

A paid membership on social media could work if your audience already spends time on YouTube or Instagram and you're looking for a simpler way to offer exclusive content. The trade-off is that the platform continues to shape how you communicate with members, manage access and deliver the experience.

Your own branded app may be worth exploring if you're looking to bring more of your business together. Rather than simply hosting videos, an app can create a dedicated space for your programmes, memberships, community and ongoing member experience.

Each option offers something different. What matters is choosing the one that fits the way you want to work.

Think beyond where your videos will live

When you're faced with a platform closure, it's natural to look for the closest replacement. You know what worked before, and getting everything moved with as little disruption as possible feels like the priority.

But your business may have changed since you first chose Vimeo.

Perhaps you started with a handful of videos and now offer structured programmes. Maybe your members want more interaction, or you're looking to introduce subscriptions, courses or a community alongside your existing content.

The platform that made sense when you started isn't necessarily the one that will serve you best now.

As you compare your options, think about what matters to you and your members.

  • Can you communicate with them directly?

  • What customer information can you access?

  • Who manages the payments and customer relationships?

  • And if you decide to move again, what can you take with you?

These are questions worth asking before committing to any platform.

You're not the first to make this move

One of the biggest worries when changing platforms is what happens to the members you've spent years building a relationship with.

Katie McKenzie, founder of ALL Studio, had the same concern when she moved from Vimeo OTT to Sudor. With more than 2,500 members and 600 classes, she wanted to make sure the move wouldn't disrupt the community she'd built.

As Katie put it:

"What mattered most to us was ensuring our members experienced little to no disruption, and Sudor delivered on that."

Katie's move was from Vimeo OTT, which works differently from Vimeo On Demand. If you're moving from On Demand, your members will need to sign up again on your new platform. But her experience is a reminder that even with an established membership and a large content library, a move can be carefully planned and managed.

And Katie isn't the only creator who's had to navigate a platform change. Many creators have moved more than once as their businesses have grown and their needs have changed.

What they learnt along the way can be just as useful as comparing the platforms themselves.

Hear from creators who've been through it

Sometimes the most helpful thing when you're facing a decision like this is hearing from someone who's already made it.

On 5 November, we're hosting a live conversation about changing platforms with two Sudor creators, Venus Lau and Cat Butterfield.

Both have been on three other platforms before finding what worked for them. They'll share why they moved, what they learnt along the way and what they'd look for if they were choosing again today.

It's also a chance to ask the questions that aren't always answered on a platform's website. What was harder than expected? How did their members respond? What would they do differently?

Whether you're just starting to explore your options or already planning your move, we hope the conversation helps you feel a little clearer about what comes next.
